Thursday will be the Great Shakeout with a modified schedule. The Drill will be at the end of 1st period, and the students should take all of their items. At the end of the drill, they will be released directly to Brunch. After Brunch, we will have the 2nd period.
You might also want to prepare your students to wear comfortable and appropriate clothes since they will be sitting on the turf during the drill.
Below is a review and reminder for the day.
DUCK, COVER AND HOLD
At the first sign of an earthquake:
Teachers will automatically issue “DUCK, COVER & HOLD” orders.
Take immediate protective position, under a desk/table and AWAY from windows. Remember to keep your head and body protected as best you can. Stay protected until all shaking and movement of objects stop.
STUDENTS WITH OPEN PERIODS
Report to the Command Post (Basketball Courts).
EVACUATE
Evacuation Procedures:
Remain Calm
Supervise and reassure students
Assess injured students (use classroom kit supplies as required)
Take Emergency Backpack
- IAs- remain with your class
- Doors to remain unlocked for Sweep and Rescue access.
Evacuate to the emergency assembly area:
Using safest route
Quickly and Quietly
Alert for blocked exits, other hazards
Aware of other classes not exiting (check buddy teacher)
ASSEMBLE AT THE EMERGENCY ASSEMBLY AREA
Instruct students to sit on the turf
Take attendance
Complete “Students Accountability Form”
Note and report immediate first aid needs to buddy teacher
Student runner picks up accounting forms and takes to the Student /Staff Status table
Check-in on CrisisGo
Search & Rescue, First Aid Team, and other team members report to stations
Do not let your students leave the evacuation area. They should remain seated and with your classes.
When the Drill is over, we will let you know and you can release your classes directly to Brunch.
